Experience the charm of The Coastal Retreat Whale Bay, Raglan, in the Waikato of New Zealand.
Handcrafted from Native timber, the Artist Studio is an open-plan sunny retreat nestled at the base of Karioi looking North up the Coast to the distant lights of Auckland. The Studio is on the first floor or our 4 level home. Private and self contained, it is powered with solar energy and it's water is rain harvested and uv filtered.
The Coastal Retreat is an eco-luxury hideaway. Artisanally designed, positioned on a half acre of gardens that maximise privacy and views.
Through large windows, watch as the weather rolls in and the ocean wind caps, smoothes or pumps. 4kms to town, 1min from world class surf breaks and incredible beaches, 10 minutes to Te Toto Gorge Lookout, Karioi hiking track or Barrelled vineyard and two hours from Hobbiton or Waitomo Caves.

This is a artists studio with all the well considered touches you might want while on holiday. We encourage guests to stay a minimum of 3 nights, to make the most of all that is available in this corner of the world. Waikato natural wonders.
Maximum number of 2 guests, the studio is well suited to a slower pace of life. Unplug and rest awhile.
120 minutes from Auckland airport and 60 minutes from Hamilton airport.

Adopt mindfulness routines to reset your nervous system: breath; yoga; meditation; sauna & cold plunge. As our guest you are welcome to gather organic food from our gardens.
If you need activities: The Coastal Retreat is positioned on a 50km bike circuit that will take you through rural, mountain and ocean scapes on rural country roads. Electric or mountain bikes not provided, but recommended.
Other optional activities in our immediate vicinity: Mount Karioi for a challenging hike or level up/learn to surf, both only 10 minutes from The Coastal Retreat. If wine is part of your routine, tastings are available at Ruapuke's own vineyard: Barrelled Wines, a 20 minute drive from The Coastal Retreat.
